Nail : Water Marble

Hello~ It is summer time finally.

Hong Kong is kind of around 24°C - 29°C... well pretty chill but I just can't want to go to the beach and jump into the pool. Summer is my favorite season of the year. Loving sunshine, beaches... and of course bikini and beach boy... :P

So we are going to play with water today. ^^ Well not really going to the beach to do nail tutorial... but this technique we will need to use water to achieve, which is the easy and wonderful "Water Marble" effect.

It is super easy to do, super fast and it looks so amazing that really looks like you just walk out of a nail salon. Gorgeous effect and finishing~

As usual, you will need the following tools to do this nail style...

Tools:
1) Base coat
Nutra Nail Base coat & ridge filler with green tea

2) Light shade nail polish
Tony Moly #VL01 Metallic purple

3) Darker shade nail polish
The Face Shop - #PP404 Deep plum

4) Top coat
GOSH #F3 French manicure top coat

5) Removable tape
Scotch... you can use regular stationery tape instead

6) Tooth pick (Around 10 or moer)

7) Bowl with 3/4 full of water (enough to cover your finger nail)

8) Nail polish remover

9) Cotton pad

10) Eyeshadow brush with flat tips

Video demonstration:

Instructions:
Step 1) Apply base coat
Apply 1 layer of Nutra nail polish to protect your nail. Wait until it dries.

Step 2)  Wrapping
With removable tape, wrap around the edge of your nail to cover the place your don't want to in-contact with nail polish. So 1 for the bottom of your nail and 2 for each side.

Step 3) Dripping nail polish
Prepare the bowl of 3/4 filled water. "Place" a drop of nail polish on the water surface. Yup... is "Place" on the surface not dropping it in... light handed.

Alternatively, placing light shade and darker shade nail polish each time start at the centre of the ripple. Repeat a few times as wanted.

Remember this process need to do really quick. Otherwise the most outer drop of polish will start to dry out.

Step 4) Tooth pick to create pattern
Use a tooth pick, randomly stroke across the ripple from the centre outward to create pattern. It looks like latte art but instead of coffee it is a ripple of nail polishes. ^^

Step 5) Dip in your finger nail
Once you create your desire pattern, place your finger nail on it with your nail facing towards the water surface. Dip it in but don't pick it up first.

Step 6) Clean up water surface
Pick up the tooth pick again and then just skim through the water surface to pick up all the excess nail polish.

This step is to avoid the excess nail polish on the surface to stick back on your nail which will definitely ruin your nail design. After that just put your finger nail away from the water surface.

Step 7) Remove tapes and soak up the water
Quickly remove the tapes around and use a q-tip or tissue to soak up water on your hand, especially those on your nail surface.

Step 8) Clean up your hand
I know up to this moment, your hand will be pretty messy as the nail polish will stick around your nail edge or even your hand.

Just simply pick nail polish remover and cotton pad to remove them.

Step 9) Clean up the nail edges
Use the eye shadow brush... soak it up with nail polish remover and just brush through the edge of your nail. It can get into the crease area so easily and your nail will looks nice and perfect afterwards. ^^

Step 10) Apply top coat
This water marble effect is really fast drying which after all these steps it will be pretty much all dry so it's time for top coat.

So generously apply top coat on your nail and go over the tips as well as usual. :P

Yeah~You're DONE!!! Really easy and fun to do nail style.

Hope you like this water marble nail tutorial. ^^

Nail : Simple comic style

Any of you still haven't see "The Avenger" !?

I just saw it last week and really been loving it... so today I am doing a inspired look from the marvel heros comic style. Well should be more directly the comic style nail tutorial. ^^

This is a very simple classic white nail with BOLD BLACK outline... the result is so fun and cartoony. It makes me laugh even just look at it. ^^

So I hope you enjoy watching this tutorial. Even I know this one might not be that wearable for most of you. Hope you still find this entertaining. ^^

Enjoy~!!!

American comic style really focus on thick, enhanced line and stroke. So I just pick this key element, and put it on my nail... :P

Take a closer look, it is so simple and fun. All you need is a couple of nail polishes and a very steady hand~!!!

Before we start. We will need to prepare below few things:

You'll need:
1) Base coat - Priti NYC #705 2-in-1 Top base coat
2) Opaque white nail polish - Bourjois French manicure #Blanc raffline 91
3) Black nail polish with fine brush - Etude house #05 Metallic black
4) Top coat - Seche Vite Dry Fast top coat

Video demonstration

Instructions:
Step 1) Apply base coat
Apply 1 layer of base coat to protect your nail

Step 2) Apply Opaque white nail polish
Apply 2 layer of white nail polish, we want an opaque white color.
Wait for 10-15 minutes until it dries.

Step 3) Outline your nail with black nail polish
Use a fine brush apply black nail polish to the edges of your nail. You can simply go over the edge with small thin stroke first then touch up the line afterwards. We want "THIN & EVEN" stroke on each side.

Then wait for another 10-15 minutes until it dries.

Step 4) Top coat
Apply top coat for extra shine and longer lasting. Remember to apply generously, light handed and don't forget to apply on the tip as well.

Yeah!!! You're Done with cartoony gimmicky comic style nail.

I even put on a matching outfit for it~ :P

So... Hope you like this comic nail tutorial.

Cooking : Tiramisu

Hi everyone, today let's make some dessert !!!

Most of the western dessert always involve some baking process which will need oven to do so. But what if you don't have a oven but still want some fancy western dessert. Well, I think you are going to love this one.

Yup... NO-BAKING involve!!!
All you need is your fridge :P.

And yes, this is the one we are going to make today - Italian tiramisu!!! ^^ yum yum~

Soft, fluffy, sweet and romantic italian style dessert~ :P

Before we start, let's go through all the ingredient,

Ingredient:
1) Whole egg X 3
2) Mascarpone cheese - 500g
3) Vanilla extract - 1 tea spoon
4) Espresso instant coffee powder - 1 full spoon
5) Baileys russian wine - Half bowl
6) Whipping cream - 250ml
7) Pure cocoa powder - 1 full spoon
8) Italian ladyfingers - 1 whole pack
9) 50g white sugar

Tools:
1) Whisk
2) 2 bowl
3) 3 big mixing bowl
4) Tea spoon
5) Spoon

Instruction:
Step 1) Prepare espresso coffee liquid
Put a full spoon of espresso coffee powder into a filter bag and put it inside a bowl, make sure you close the filter bag so when later on we add hot water to the bowl, the powder won't float around everywhere.

As later on when we soak our ladyfinger into the bowl, it won't soak up together with the coffee powder :P.

Add half bowl of hot water and set this aside first.

Step 2) Whisk egg yolk mixture
Separate the 3 whole eggs, this time we want the egg yolk.

Put the 3 egg yolk into a mixing bowl and add 25g of white sugar. Whisk until the mixture become creamy and start to turn lighter in color.

Then we add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and whisk again... beat it up until while you put your whisk up and the liquid just enough for you to write a letter... mum... how to explain...!?
little bit gluey sticky but a few second later the trace disappear.... OMG... I hope you get what I mean :P so difficult to explain.

Maybe you can check out the video for more accurate "VISUAL" ^^

Step 3) Add cheese
After you finish whisking the egg yolk, add the whole box of 500g mascarpone cheese... just dump it all in and start folding in until you get a smooth mixture.

Step 4) Whisk whipping cream
In another mixture bowl, add 250ml of whipping cream...  and start whisking until the cream become creamy thick and stiff. ^^

Step 5) Whisking egg white mixture
Again in another mixing bowl, add the remaining 25g of white sugar into the 3 egg white. Whisk until the egg white become fluffy and when you whole your whisk up, the mixture won't fall down back to the bowl.

Step 6) Mix in all 3 mixture.
In sequence of adding the egg white and whipping cream back to the cheese and egg yolk mixture. Mix well all the ingredient. You will finally get a paste like creamy mixture.

Okay so far we have all the calories burn in whisking all the mixture, is time for some relaxing work.

Step 7) Layering
Remember we have prepared the espresso coffee right at the beginning?  Yup... is time to use it.

So we prepare a deep glass container, we dip our ladyfingers into the espresso coffee, just a touch of coffee at both side of the ladyfingers is enough.

Then we layer the ladyfingers at the bottom of the glass container 1 by 1. After we fill up the bottom with a layer of ladyfingers, we add our creamy cheese mixture, I put about two scoop just to make sure it covers up all the ladyfingers.

Then we start doing 2nd layer. Repeat the whole process but instead of using espresso coffee, we use Baileys russian wine, just to have a taste of its creamy coffee flavor... mum... nice~

After that repeat the process for the 3rd and 4th layers, until your fill up to the top and make sure the cream cheese mixture cover all the ladyfingers on the most top layer.

Step 8) Put it inside the fridge
Put the whole thing into the fridge, just the normal food section, don't have to put it up to the ice section. :P Then let it sit there for at least 4-6 hours before you eat.

Step 9) Finishing touch of cocoa powder
After a few hours, before you eat it... just to add a full spoon of pure cocoa powder to the top, adding an extra touch of cocoa flavor~ mum~

Wa-la, you're done!!!
Soft, fluffy and creamy tiramisu. Super easy to make~ ^^

This recipe is portion for around 8 people Lol. Well sweet dessert especially the creamy one should never eat it up alone... I bet you can't really control yourself. :P

So share it, it will makes a lot more joy & fun to share it with friends!!! haha~

So... Hope you like this delicious tiramisu. ^^

Review : Natural Coconut Oil

Hi Everyone!!!

Today's blog post is about Coconut oil. Not sure if you still remember this big jar of coconut oil I bought from last time iherb.com purchase. This jar of coconut oil is the odorless one which is for your skin and hair but NOT for intake consumption.

So today I will do a review on this amazing coconut oil.
First of all let me tell you about some amazing benefits of coconut oil in the beauty side.

Beauty Benefits:
1) Good moisturizer
Very moisturizing natural oil source which can absorb to your skin really quickly.
Work best on your some dry spot or patches.

2)  Amazing hair treatment
Coconut oil have a very effective influence in dull and fizzy looking hair. It can bring back shine and moisturize the fizzy. I try it a few time use it as an overnight treatment. My hair feels incredibly soft and fizz free... AMAZING!!!

3) Sun protection
Although the sun protection effect is not enough for a regular sun-bath usage. It can tolerant to an average sun exposure of SPF 5. Well very basic but will be great for those who want a natural tan but don't want sun burn. ^^

4) Makeup remover
Due to its oil base nature, can remove most of the waterproof and sweat-proof makeup. I will demonstration on how I use coconut oil to remove my makeup :P. (You can jump to the pictures below)

Before we go in deep to the demonstration part, I want to tell you a little bit more on the coconut oil nature.

Coconut oil nature:

Natural coconut oil have a melting point of 25°C so when the temperature rise, it will melt.

Say in the summer time, Hong Kong usually around 32°C-37°C, coconut oil will definitely in liquid form. But when in winter time when temperature is around 12°C-18°C, coconut oil will be in solid form. haha~

Okay, the below picture I take in the winter time while the temperature is around 14°C. And my body temperature is around 27°C... so the solid coconut oil on my hand will melt. See it dripping off from my hand!?

And my big jar of coconut oil appears to be like this :P.

The is the photo I take a few days ago while temperature is around 32°C.!!!
Real hot!!! So it is in liquid form.

Okay... back to the real test!!!

As makeup remover:
I start off with my daily face makeup, foundation, eye brows, waterproof mascara and waterproof eyeliner. Lip and cheeks I barely wear any. ^^

Simply use coconut oil and rub it to my face gently. Mainly focus on my eye area as I want the coconut oil to break down the most difficult to remove waterproof eye liner and mascara.

You see... it completely melt them off !!!

This is my bare face with no makeup. It completely melt it off and my skin feels so soft afterwards !!! Love !!!

Pros:
1) Natural oil without any toxic chemical
2) Nourishing and remove all makeup at the same time.
3) Inexpensive (HKD$40 for this big jar)
4) Versatile usage (Not just to remove makeup, can be use as hair treatment as well)

Cons:
1) You will need double cleansing

As coconut oil will form back to solid when in cool temperature. So when you wash off your face, DON"T splash your face with COLD water. The coconut oil will cool down and form an oil film on your face.... You will feel greasy instead of refreshing... >.<

Instead of COLD water, you should use luke warm water to clean your face.
For the best result, I use cleansing milk again to clear all the makeup residue on my face as a second clean.

So the most difficult job (Waterproof eyeliner and mascara) - I will leave it to my coconut oil for a gentle and throughout clean but less difficult job (other face mekup) - I will still use my gentle cleansing milk.

Yes it may be annoying in certain way, but in a more natural and organic alternative other than using a regular eye makeup remover. I like my coconut oil better. ^^

So... Hope you like this post and find it helpful. ^^

Nail : Elegant-glitter french nail

Hello everyone, this week nail tutorial is simple elegant glitter french nail. As I have been doing a lot of special effect recently. All those nail design seems to be too bold and "out-there" so I decided to tone it down a little bit.

This nail design is suitable for office-ladies if you always need to get in contact with client, you may need something simply sophisticated, makes you look elegance and polished.

If you are interested in this nail design, you can jump right into the video tutorial down below. ^^~ Enjoy!!!

Little close up shoot for this easy to do glittery french nail~ ^^

TOOLS

1) Priti NYC #222 Coronation (Base Coat)
I use this clear beige color as base coat as the nail polishes from Priti NYC doesn't contain any toxic chemical like toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and formaldehyde- all these known carcinogenic ingredients.

2) GOSH #F3 Top coat (for French manicure)
Add extra shine and seal the nail design and it dries pretty fast too.

3) Tony Moly #VL03 Metallic purple

4) Missha Lucid Nail Polish #VL01 Purple slivery glitter
Clear deep purple polish with massive amount of silvery glitter.

5) Etude house #07 Gold glitter nail
It have a define brush applicator which is perfect for drawing straight line and thin stroke.

VIDEO TUTORIAL

Step 1: Base color
Apply a thin layer of clear beige color to your nail.
I am using Priti NYC brand as base just because this nail polish is free of toxin chemical.

Step 2: Cover
With removable tape, cover your nail, leaving just the part you want to paint. I slightly slanted the angle a little bit.

Step 3: Slanted
Using the metallic purple color, paint on the tips of your nail, then quickly remove the tape. Don't wait until it dries, as the nail polish will crack while you pull the tape when dry. Remove the tape immediately so you can get a clean sharp straight line.

Wait until it dries...

Adding the 2nd purple glitter color. I am doing the exact same thing as I did for the metallic color, but in opposite side of the nail surface. Just paint and pack on the purple color.

Step 4: Stroke
Adding the final color which is the gold shimmer. This gold shimmer polish got a very define applicator allow a very thin stroke application which is perfect for line drawing.

So with a skinny applicator, draw a thin gold shimmer stroke just beneath the purple shimmer color.

Wait again... ^^

Step 5: Top coat
Last step is of course top coat, I am using GOSH top coat for french manicure. This top coat dry fast and it give an almost gel like finish.

While applying top coat, I usually will apply a very thick coat and then wait for at least 15-30 minutes.

So in the mean while, I will just seat tight watching tv drama, youtube or listen to music. :P

Yeah!!! You're DONE
Finish look

So... Thanks for watching. XO

Hope you all like this nail tutorial ^^
